P-I-NAS Interview issue #9

One of the early Oi!/Punk Rock Band here in the Philippines, Putang -I-Nas was legendary in the Oi! / Punk scene way back then & up until now. Got the chance to interview them on our last printed Issue #9. They were  also featured on countless DIY Punk/HC compilation both locally & abroad in Cassette & Vinyl format in the 1990's. The band  produced a CDr Format of their own album "Sweet Sixteen" way back in 2007, ,my fave track on this is Adeline song. See the full review of their album in The Ricecooker Shop  site done by Joe Kidd from Malaysia.

Sports Complex gig  somewhere in Rembo, Makati 199???
Sad to say their original member Darwin Laluz (RIP) passed away in 2006 (naalala ko yun 14-holes Doc Martens boots ko na hiniram mo nun papunta tayo sa All You Can Eat Gig '95 sa San Pedro, Laguna hehehe) .

Much respect to these guys, sticking to the DIY Spirit. 2 members (Darwin (RIP) & Cris) of the band even had made their own Fanzine called "Oi! Banger" way back in the 90's.

Mutilated News Editor interviewed on Cheap Thrills Fanzine (click on the link to read in full details)

The return of the comeback, resurrecting MuTiLATeD N3wS again (W.T.F.!) After more than a decade of HiAtUs (12 years to be exact)!! The answer is F.O.A.D. thing. This is an introduction behind the fanzine (like a loony self-interview). One would ask, Is this lunacy for real? But why? How did it started anyway?
Mutilated News #6

Early part of  '88. Basically most of the stuffs included in the first issue were interviews of Punk/HC bands from PATTS , Reviews of The Wuds Gig in an abandoned building in Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City, Puesto Legarda with Dead Ends Playing, UP Sunken Garden & a short Pilipino poem about our violent escapade against Olongapo punks back in '87.
Started with my college friends (Regie P., A guy from Cavite & some other people) who had come & go (started their family, busy w/ work career,  etc.) with the Ups & Downs of the Philippine HC/Punk scene (just like me). Anyway our aim (still is) were to feature our fave local & foreign HC Punk bands on print & review their music materials also (Cassette Tapes, C.D.'s, 7" or 12" Vinyl Records)  plus also Gig, 'Zine reviews & Scene Reports from other countries too. Its a D.I.Y. hand/typewritten mixed & match, Cut & Paste style, photocopied in the corner Xerox Copy Center in Recto, Manila. No internet back then when we started only snail mail communication with the DIY HC/Punk scenes from here & abroad.

But why did I/we chose to start a fanzine rather than form a HC/Punk band or start a label (I will go to that later)? Where there other local HC/Punk 'zines before Mutilated News?
Herald X

Blatant Underground 'Zine
Actually my first exposure to DIY Punk 'zines were local ones. Like Herald X done by Tommy T. of Twisted Red Cross Label w/c was more like a MRR of the Philippines back then but lasted for 2 issues only. Garbage Fanzine (1987) done by the crew of HC/Punk band  G.I. & the Idiots from Malabon City, Blatant Underground (click the link to read Issue#6 on scribd) by Gerry Bagets (lead guitarist of the legendary  I.O.V.) and Growll Fanzine done by Roderick C. (Vox of Infernal Wrath) the rest of his Thrasher crew.
ANTI Fanzine from Laguna done by Reypeace of BioFeedbacK & later Milagro then DEVASTATED Fanzine made by Mot of Isvarah.

Used to hangout during the 80's & 90's at Tandem Cinema, Recto Ave. Manila gilid were other HC/Punks thrashers scenesters meet usually after school to swap ideas, schedule gigs, swap/trade fanzines, records, tapes what have you, drink & whatever the Punk would do.

So I decided to jump the bandwagon & started my own 'Zine, its more of "If they can do it, So can I." Start a band? Hahaha, can't even carry a note or two, actually I was supposed to be the vocalist of BFK but then again got kicked out due to my chronic  absentism  in band practices. Regarding about the label our first release was a collaboration with BFK Cassette tape album "HARDTIMES" in 1994, then a CD-R album release of NFM with Albert A. during the early part of this decade.

(To Be Continued..................)

Anyway in the coming days, weeks (even months) I will rev up this site for your reading, listerine este listening (ear waxing needed) & viewing (reading glasses needed) pleasure. Online format of Mutilated News is here to stay (I hope hehehe), unfortunately even the master copies of the printed Issue have been lost (particularly Issue#8). Any help in finding these gems would be rewarded accordingly :D.

The last printed issue of Mutilated News.
Will post Blast from the Past photo's, interviews, gig flyers etc.
